Centerfire Cartridge

Centerfire Cartridge
In a centerfire cartridge the primer is located at the center of the cartridge casehead and is a separate and replaceable component, unlike that in a rimfire cartridge. Most modern pistol, rifle and shotgun ammunition use centerfire. The main advantage of centerfire cartridges is the fact that they can be reused even after replacing the primer, gunpowder, and projectile. Centerfire cartridges also handle higher power loads than do rimfire cartridges and are more powerful than rimfire cartridges because they can hold higher pressures. However, it is also for this reason that centerfire cartridges are more expensive than rimfire cartridges.
